6/7/26 O&A NYC THE WORD: Kathleen Battle & Jessye Norman at Carnegie Hall -There is a Balm in Gilead

There is a Balm in Gilead performed by Kathleen Battle and Jessye Norman at Carnegie Hall remains one of the most culturally significant and vocally sublime moments in classical music history.

On March 18, 1990, the two legendary African-American operatic sopranos joined forces for a historic concert dedicated entirely to African-American spirituals. Conducted by James Levine, the event featured members of the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
