Gospel music has experienced a great loss with the passing of one of it’s legends – Mama Mosie Burks of the Mississippi Mass Choir, she was 92. Known as “Mama” Burks, the former lead soloist of the Mississippi Mass Choir’s gospel was born June 17, 1933 in Forest, Mississippi.
In her early days, she picked cotton as a child before working as a domestic, moving to Jackson to pursue her education. Later as a member of the choir, she traveled with the choir to at least eight countries, spreading the message of Christ. The Mississippi Mass Choir, a prolific Grammy-nominated gospel chorus, has lost one of its most legendary lead vocalists. Mama Mosie Burks died in June at the age of 92.
