Shall We Dance Friday

The Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project (CBDLP) 2025 presentation, Unbound: Shattered Frames, Endless Visions will grace the stage of the Harris Theater for Music and Dance this Saturday, August 23, 6pm. This unprecedented dance/theatre event showcases ten of Chicago’s most dynamic and diverse dance companies. The event is more than a dance concert. The production is a collective of Chicago-based artists celebrating the continued historic contributions of the Black dance community on the city’s cultural landscape.

The Chicago Multicultural Dance Company and Hiplet Ballerinas, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, Forward Momentum Chicago, Joel Hall Dancers & Center, M.A.D.D. Rhythms, Move Me Soul, Muntu Dance Theatre, NAJWA Dance Corps, Praize Productions, and The Era Footwork Collective have united to create an evening of stellar performances and dance education. The collective diasporic offering exemplifies the breath of Chicago’s Black dance excellence and its impact globally. Ballet and Hip Hop blended into the perfect amalgam of Afro-soul on pointe, modern based dancer offering a liturgical message; and dancers codifying and legitimizing urban vernacular street dance are just few of the works presented.

O&A NYC Magazine had the opportunity to talk to Co-Artistic Directors Kevin Iega Keff and Mashaune Hardy and guest choreographer and Co- Curator Gary Abbott about their roles in the production of Unbound: Shattered Frames, Endless Visions.
