Jazztet was a jazz sextet, co-founded in 1959 by trumpeter Art Farmer and tenor saxophonist Benny Golson. In the first phase, the Jazztet lasted until 1962 and helped launch the careers of pianist McCoy Tyner and trombonist Grachan Moncur III.Farmer and Golson revived the group in 1982 and toured again. Moanin’ stands as one of the archetypal hard bop compositions and albums of the era, for the intensity of Blakey’s drumming and the work of Morgan, Golson and Timmons, and for its combination of old-fashioned gospel and blues influences with a sophisticated modern jazz sensibility.
