Jesus, You’re Beautiful is featured on Throne Room, the sixth studio album by multiple Grammy-winning gospel artist CeCe Winans. In comparison to Winans’ previous projects, this one is more inspirational, with more traditional songs. In 2004, the 25-city tour Throne Room with the group Anointed performed free admission concerts. The DVD of the concert was recorded in Tennessee near Winans’ home. Continue reading

Tamia Marilyn Hill known professionally as Tamia, is a Canadian born singer-songwriter. Tomorrow written by Carvin Lawrence Winans and Deborah Kerr Winans and appears on her third studio album More (2004). It was originally scheduled (and titled Still) for a 2003 release but was later delayed due to Tamia’s multiple sclerosis diagnosis. Tamia peformed to the song a few years earlier and performed it in 2001 on the BET. Continue reading

Earth Song is the third single from Michael Jackson’s album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I. The ballad incorporates elements of blues, gospel and opera. Jackson had a long-standing history of releasing socially conscious material such as We Are the World, Man in the Mirror and Heal the World. Tim Bowman, Jr. has voice reminiscent of and capable of the acrobatics of Stevie Wonder. A contemporary gospel singer and songwriter this Detroit, Michigan native grew up in a musical family. His father, Tim Bowman, is a Billboard-charting jazz/gospel musician, and his paternal aunt is popular gospel singer Vickie Winans. The Reverend Dr. James Edward Cleveland was a gospel singer, musician, and composer. Known as the King of Gospel music, Cleveland was a driving force behind the creation of the modern gospel sound by incorporating traditional black gospel, modern, soul, pop and jazz in arrangements for mass choirs. Throughout his career, Cleveland appeared on hundreds of recordings, won 4 Grammy Awards, and received a star along the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

10/11/15 O&A NYC Gospel Sunday (Repost): Oh Happy Day- Edwin Hawkins Singers
Oh Happy Day is a 1967 gospel music arrangement of an 18th-century hymn. Recorded by the Edwin Hawkins Singers, it became an international hit in 1969. Hawkins’ arrangement quickly became a “standard” and has been recorded by hundreds of artists. It was included on the RIAA Songs of the Century list and won Hawkins a Grammy Award for Best Soul Gospel Performance in 1970. Continue reading
