Ailey Celebrates Ellington premiered in 1974 on CBS. Narrated by R&B legend Gladys Knight the television special showcases the collaborative bond between choreographer Alvin Ailey and jazz music royalty Duke Ellington.

Ailey created fourteen ballets using the music of Ellington and in this excerpt we are treated to a performance by Ailey and member of the Ailey Repertory Workshop of the Alvin Ailey Dance Center including Sarita Allen, Fred Bratcher, Bar Dell Conner, Dyane Harvey, Agnes Johnson, Anita Littleton, Delila Moseley, Marshall Roumain, Marvin Tunney, Leslie Watanabe and John Young.
