8/23/25 O&A NYC MEET THE ARTIST: Sekou Tepaka Lunda Conde – Muntu Dance Theater

Lights! Camera! Action! The Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project’s Unbound: Shattered Frames, Endless Visions is finally here. This Black dance extravaganza will that place tonight, August 23, 6pm at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance.

The evening will present the talents of ten Chicago-based dance companies highlighting the diversity and scope of the city’s black dance community. In fact, the evening is a testament of the power of pedagogy, community and legacy. Muntu Dance Theater under the direction of Artistic/Creative Director Sekou Tepaka Lunda Conde has been sharing their gifts of West African and diasporic inspired movement for over fifty-two years.

The company will present Continuum an ensemble work featuring live drumming and vocals. The Continuum is a sacred place that honors what has come before while embracing what is yet to be born.  Conde briefly discusses the power of Continuum and the Muntu Dance Theater in our Meet The Artist video segment.

Meet The Artist – Muntu Dance Theater

Muntu Dance Company will be joined by The Chicago Multicultural Dance Company and Hiplet Ballerinas, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, Forward Momentum Chicago, Joel Hall Dancers & Center, M.A.D.D. Rhythms, Move Me Soul, Muntu Dance Theatre, NAJWA Dance Corps, Praize Productions, and The Era Footwork Collective. This performance will truly be an evening of Black dance excellence.
