By Walter Rutledge

It’s Taylor Time! The Paul Taylor Dance Company will begin it 2026 fall season Tuesday November 2 at Lincoln Center’s State Theater. The season will present timeless classics Taylor works including Arabesque, …Byzantium, Spindrift, and 3 Epitaphs, Airs, Cloven Kingdom, Last Look, and Piazzolla Caldera. These works display Taylor’s choreographed diversity ranging from quirky to profound, poetic to ironic. In addition to the season will features two striking Company premieres Resident Choreographer Robert Battle’s No Longer Silent (2007) and Alwin Nikolais’ Tensile Involvement (1953).

Tensile Involvement is described as “a mesmerizing fusion of movement, lighting, and stage design in which dancers create a luminous “cat’s cradle” across the stage”. Battle’s No Longer Silent is set to a long-forgotten score by Austro-Czech Jewish composer Erwin Schulhoff, who was banned in Nazi Germany and composed the work between 1922 and 1925. Denied employment after the Germans occupied Czechoslovakia, Schulhoff was prevented from emigrating and died of tuberculosis in the Wülzburg concentration camp in 1942. Schulhoff will be no longer silent as his music will return to Lincoln Center this season. In June 1941,

O&A NYC Editor-in-Chief Walter Rutledge sat down with Battle to discuss his new work and all things Taylor.
