Our Gang (also known as The Little Rascals or Hal Roach’s Rascals) began in 1922 as a series of silent short subjects produced by the Roach studio.  The series is about a group of poor neighborhood children and their adventures. Created by comedy producer Hal Roach, the series is noted for showing children behaving in a relatively natural way, as Roach and original director Robert F. McGowan worked to film the unaffected, raw nuances apparent in regular children rather than have them imitate adult acting styles. Continue reading

mezzanine_144Women of Soul: In Performance at the White House is a PBS music special taped in the East Room of the White House, celebrating the great “foremothers” of American music, with songs expressing the struggles and achievements of women. President and Mrs. Obama hosted the event on Thursday, March 6, 2014. The all-star concert will include performances by Tessanne Chin, Melissa Etheridge, Aretha Franklin, Ariana Grande, Patti LaBelle, Janelle Monáe and Jill Scott, with Greg Phillinganes as music director.  The program finale was Aretha Franklin performing Amazing Grace. One of the song Franklin has performed throughout her “amazing” career.  Continue reading

Richard Sherman is unquestionably one of the most polarizing figures in the NFL, but his entertainment value is hard to deny. Since ascending to All-Pro status as a cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks in 2012, Sherman has made a name for himself by constantly boasting that he’s the best corner in the game.This hilarious new ad from Nike Football makes light of the headlines he sparks and even brings in comedian Damon Wayans Jr. to help tell the tale of Richard Sherman. It is Saturdayyiqlwwzy7so8c6c6nzcrA memorial for actress and civil rights activist Ruby Dee is scheduled to begin Saturday, September 20 at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT. The service will be held at the Riverside Church in New York and will feature music by Alicia Keys and Audra McDonald, reflections by former Mayor David Dinkins and Sonia Sanchez, and a eulogy by Harry Belafonte. Dee died June 11 at 91.
