The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers, commonly called The LXD, depicts two groups of rival dancers: The Alliance of the Dark who are the villains and The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers, the heroes. Both groups discover they have superpowers referred to as “the Ra” through their dance abilities. The entire story takes place over hundreds of years, beginning in the 1920s up to the year 3000.

Jon M. Chu, created, directed and produced the series  inspired  by Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Smooth Criminal music videos and by the dancers he met while filming the movie Step Up 2: The Streets. He has described the show as “balletic”, “operatic”, “high quality” and a “Justice League of Dance.

Bob Marley and The Wailers, Dick Gregory, Olatunji, Eddie Palmieri, Jabula, the art of Black Dance and Patti Labelle came to Harvard Stadium in Boston on July 21, 1979. The benefit concert was dedicated to the on-going struggles in Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa. The concert was called AMANDLA.: Festival of Unity. The  sixteen minute solo, composed in three sections includes A Song for You by Donny Hathaway; Poppies by Nina Simone; and He Ain’t Heavy, He’s my Brother by Donny Hathaway. Many  thought of the work as the male equivalent of the female solo Cry (1971). Continue reading

The Worst, is a song  released on the  debut album of Jhene Aiko entitled Sail Out (2013)  On November 11, 2013 Aiko debuted the song’s accompanying music video. The video depicts Aiko being driven to murder due to her bad relationship, the video continues with Aiko sitting in her kitchen while her boyfriend lies on the floor. After committing murder, she makes herself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, applies her makeup, and puts on her jewelery. She washes her hands of blood and calmly walks out of her house in lingerie to waiting cops. Continue reading
