Giselle tells the tragic, romantic story of a beautiful young peasant girl who falls for the flirtations of the deceitful and disguised nobleman Albrecht. When the ruse is revealed, the fragile Giselle dies of heartbreak, and Albrecht must face the otherworldly consequences of his careless seduction. This 1977 American Ballet Theater televised production of Giselle was headed by Natalia Makarova, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Martine van Hamel.

The four-minute short, When Harry Met Santa, features a gay love story. And it ends with a recognition that it is the 50th anniversary of the country’s decriminalization of homosexuality. I Still Believe the song by Diana Ross takes a page out of the “Love Hangover” playbook (as did Diana’s version of “I Will Survive”), starting off as a sultry piano-led ballad before exploding into a joyful, club-ready groove. Ms. Ross is in fine, lush voice crooning the words “In love I still believe…it’s all I ever need…,” and as she’s joined by a soft symphony of instruments, one can’t help but think of another Ross classic, “Theme from Mahogany.” But when the tempo picks up, a Latin-infused disco beat takes over that lends a new, exciting sound to the already-vast Diana discography.
